Serving Glasgow’s East End since 1989

  • With an extensive range of DIY hand tools, ironmongery, all manner of light bulbs and batteries, decorating supplies, kitchenware and stationary/craft supplies - we aim to be your one-stop shop for miscellany big and small.

  • Our specialist key duplication service offers the widest range in the local area (and for a good 30+% cheaper than the national chain Timpson). From simple house keys, close fobs and high security ‘dimple’ keys to safe keys and chipped car keys.

  • We offer a bespoke engraving service for a range of purposes; from a personal message on a piece of jewellery, industrial marking of padlocks, pet tags and zippos up to medium-sized plaques for door signs and memorial plaques.

  • We have the experience, tools and stock to change batteries in the majority of timepieces, and offer a wide range of leather straps to suit both budget and premium designs.

  • “Stemming from my time as a music student doing tech work, I started offering a setup/restringing service after chatting to several interested regular customers who would see me working (or indeed playing) my own collection behind the shop counter”

The Shop

An “emporium”, an “Aladdin’s Cave” or just “that dead handy wee shop in Parkhead” - at John’s Household Store we strive to live up to a reputation of being a well-stocked, friendly and knowledgable local DIY and homewares shop.

Specialists in key-cutting and with an expanding range of engraving services, we truly have something for everyone, and if we don’t have what you need we’ll do our best to source it - just send us a message!

History

John Zambonini opened his first shop on Westmuir St in the 1980s, a couple of blocks down from our current location (since demolished), which I’m told was just as well-stocked despite being less than half the size! It quickly became an invaluable resource for the community, whether in need of a teapot, a spare key cut or a particular woodscrew. John retired and sadly passed away soon afterwards in 2020.

The current owner, Bryce, started working in the shop and learning the trade in 2013, and has no intention of changing it’s name - “BHS” sounds somehow ill-fated for a homewares store.
